Creating a fairer world for marginalised communities through digital innovation
Since leaving school at 16, Laura Scanlon has been changing the world. As a digital marketer she predicted flu outbreaks (and focused tissue sales) for Kleenex, winning the prestigious Cannes Gold Lion.
Laura found her calling in social impact projects for Nike Foundation and Girl Effect, where she founded TEGA (Technology Enabled Girls Ambassadors ). This innovative system used mobile technology to teach marginalised young women in some of the world’s most unstable environments to become qualified interviewers.
In 2019 she founded Here I Am Studio, with the aim of helping social impact organisations understand how to best use digital technology to reach and support excluded communities. Their ethical research platform, Fatima, enables “every person in the world to have their voice heard”, using the information shared to create a better world.
“Convention says that women are typically self-deprecating, and often underestimate their ability and potential,” says Laura. “But this ability to accurately self-reflect on our weaknesses is also a killer skill. Knowing your weak spots, and filling these gaps with support and talent is a smart first step in turning an idea into a successful business.”
