The problem and opportunity
Delirium is common, serious and often missed in older people receiving care at home. It is a major driver of avoidable hospital admissions, with many cases preventable if recognised earlier. Carers are often the first to notice change, but they lack structured tools to assess, document and escalate concerns in time. Existing care software focuses on planning and rostering, not the point where someone starts to decline.
The solution and innovation
CareBoodle is a mobile tool that helps non-clinical carers spot delirium early by flagging changes from a person’s normal baseline through guided prompts, built-in training and clear escalation pathways. Agencies get a dashboard of structured observations, escalations and outcomes, creating a unique evidence base. The MVP is built, with GDPR, governance and cyber foundations in place, and evaluation underway at the University of Worcester.
Market and ambition
Our initial market is 13,733 CQC-regulated domiciliary care locations in England, with a c. £20.6m annual TAM at a £1,500 SaaS licence. Revenue is B2B subscription, with expansion into care homes and supported living over three years.
Founder perspective
Liz Blacklock RN, Stella Shaw RN and Dr Kirsten Protherough founded CareBoodle after seeing delirium missed at home too often. Bringing frontline care, clinical expertise and direct sector reach,they are driving earlier detection, faster escalation and better outcomes for older people across care settings and services.
