The problem and opportunity
Lameness affects nearly 30% of British dairy cows, costing the UK industry £128m a year in lost yield, treatment costs and culling, and around £3.30 per cow for every day it goes untreated. It harms animal welfare and farm profitability. Yet detection still relies on visual scoring, which is subjective, time-consuming and often catches cases only once they are severe. Earlier, objective detection is a clear commercial and welfare opportunity.
The solution and innovation
MooMore turns thermal images into an early-warning system for dairy lameness. On-device AI reads temperature patterns (hotspots and left-right asymmetry) to flag inflammation before it’s visible, sending staff a simple ‘check this cow’ smartphone alert to act on. Unlike costly single-format monitoring systems, MooMore is a multi-component, combining fixed-camera and handheld tools. It’s now being validated on a 650-cow commercial dairy farm.
Market and ambition
MooMore targets the UK’s 7,000 dairy farms (a £5.7bn market in subscriptions and hardware) starting with a live pilot on a 650-cow commercial farm. The approach extends to the wider beef and cattle sector too. Over three years, we aim to reach 1–3% of GB herds, championing the future of iconic British farming.
Founder perspective
I’ve spent my career applying computer vision and AI in agriculture, mainly crop health and quality control. Then one day I was asked: “How about AI for cows?” That was the start of MooMore. It took four years to find the right farm partner and technology, but I’m determined to prove women can lead the future of agritech.
