A digital solution to bridge the gender pension gap

Megan Worthing-Davies is the co-founder of Maji Financial Wellbeing Ltd, a fintech company developing the UK’s first digital pension planner focused on women. With 15 years of experience in change management consulting and the non-profit sector, her journey from Teach First participant to fintech innovator stems from a mission to create positive social impact through education and behaviour change.

The gender pension gap remains a critical challenge, with women retiring 305% poorer than men. The average woman saving today has only £12,000 to live on each year in retirement. Maji’s innovative platform aims to address this disparity by providing targeted financial planning tools and strategies specifically designed for women’s needs.

“To begin with ‘the end in mind’ means to start with a clear understanding of your destination. It means to know where you’re going so that you better understand where you are now, and so that the steps you take are always in the right direction,” says Megan.

Her experiences as a working mother, balancing family finances through spreadsheets, highlighted the need for accessible financial planning tools. This personal insight, combined with her professional expertise, has shaped Maji’s development of practical solutions for women managing work and care responsibilities.

“I feel very lucky!” says Megan of winning the Women in Innovation Award. “Through the programme, we want to develop a really amazing tool that genuinely makes a difference to women, their families and others taking on care roles in society.”

“Financial services is a male-dominated industry and I’ve found it challenging to have often been one of only a few female faces in the room,” Megan reflects. “I’ve been lucky to have a very supportive co-founder, several strong female role models as well as colleagues who have inspired me.”

Her advice to aspiring women innovators? “Focus on things you are passionate about. Work can take up such a big chunk of life, it’s important that you enjoy it. Put yourself in situations where you can build relationships with other female innovators who will encourage and inspire you.”
