Making sustainable manufacturing with biology affordable - and feeding the world
With a background in biology, genetics and biomedical research, Dr Monika Tomecka is at the cutting edge of life science innovation. Her vision is to make sustainable manufacturing with biology affordable – specifically to enable the industrialisation of cultivated meat.
“It is an exciting space to be in,” says Monika. “By 2030, for the first time in history, we won’t be able to produce enough food to feed the world’s population. We need to produce more food in a more sustainable way. We need enabling technologies which will allow us to scale up that production.”
Her company, uFraction8, develops innovative industrial bio-separation instruments that outcompete traditional filters, membranes and centrifuges and maintain permeability over a long duration.
Since founding uFraction8 in 2017, Monika has been recognised by Insider as one of the Top 20 women to watch in Scotland and Top 10 of European Women Who Tech in 2019. She is rightly proud of her achievements.
“I aspire to develop and grow a strong international company that will make products enabling bio-economy revolution of our times. I also hope to make it a great place to work for our employees and have a positive impact on the environment.”
