The problem and opportunity

Biotechnology can transform how we make food, health and materials. For example, precision fermentation can cut greenhouse emissions by 72-97% versus conventional methods (WEF, 2025). Yet taking a process from lab to factory is slow and costly, and around 90% of innovations fail to scale – not because the science fails, but because the manufacturing can’t be scaled viably. Process optimisation can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars per experiment.

The solution and innovation

New Wave Biotech has develop AI-enabled technology that build hybrid ‘digital twins’ of bioprocesses, allowing teams explore thousands of virtual process configurations, weigh the trade-offs between performance, cost and sustainability, and run only the most valuable physical experiments. As data is added, the system improves to build competitive advantage. In customer projects it has cut experiments by up to 92%, and unit costs by up to 55%.

Market and ambition

The market for biomanufacturing software is set to reach ~$86B by 2040, within a $1.1T bioeconomy. New Wave Biotech serves producers and their equipment and innovation partners across food, health, materials and pharma, and aims to become the standard for simulation-driven biomanufacturing scale-up.
