Enabling Data Access - Competition Briefings

Overview

Innovate UK, as part of UK Research and Innovation, will invest up to £3.5 million to develop data access methods to enable the application of artificial intelligence (AI) and data technologies in the accountancy, insurance and legal services sector.

 

The aim of this competition is to speed up the responsible adoption of AI and data technologies and solutions in the accountancy, insurance and legal sectors by enabling better access to data.

Individuals can apply to take part in a 3-day residential Innovation Lab on behalf of their organisation. The Innovation Lab will run from 14 to 16 October 2019. The participants will work together to develop collaborative proposals for research and innovation projects. After the Innovation Lab, the project consortia will have 4 weeks to finalise their proposals before submitting them for assessment.

The briefing events will include an opportunity to hear about the objectives and scope of the competition as well as a chance to meet other businesses, researchers and build new collaborations.

 

Background
As part of the Industrial Strategy, the Government is investing up to £20M in the Next Generation Services industrial strategy challenge fund (ISCF). The objective of the Challenge is to maintain the leadership position of the UK in global high-value services by developing a targeted approach to support the sector’s engagement in R&D in the emerging new technologies based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the data economy, one of four ‘Grand Challenge’ areas identified in the government’s Industrial Strategy White Paper. The scope of this challenge is limited to legal services, accountancy and insurance which are high-value data-driven services under the broader category of Professional Business Services and Financial Services.
