We have created a microbiome community in the UK to highlight the UK’s world leading microbiome science and enable translation of this science to the benefit of the academic institutions, start-ups, SMEs, larger established companies that operate here, and to society at large. This community covers all microbiomes connected to human health and wellbeing, animal health and nutrition, and agri-food.
Since our microbiome activity began in 2019, we have developed a Microbiome Landscape Map, featuring over 150 organisations and over 400 research projects, providing a comprehensive view of the UK microbiome sector. We have also published two reports:
- Human Intestinal Microbiome Therapies and Diagnostics – The Science, Opportunities and Challenges: Focused on the science, opportunities and challenges of developing human intestinal microbiome therapies and diagnostics.
- Microbiome Strategic Roadmap: Reviews the landscape of microbiome science and innovation within the UK. In line with the “one health” approach, it spans human, animal and plant sectors with key recommendations on how to advance science translation and business creation.
