Are you an early career scientist carrying out research of interest to the food industry?

KTN’s Early Careers Researchers in Food 2017 event is now open for registrations.

The food and drink industry is the UK’s largest manufacturing sector, contributing an estimated £28.2 billion to the economy and employing approximately 400,000 people. It is a highly regulated and competitive sector, which needs to be able to quickly respond and adapt to the latest scientific findings in areas such as food safety, causes of obesity, and sustainability.

It is also a sector which can offer interesting career opportunities for MSc or PhD students, or those undertaking their first post-doctoral position, also known as early career scientists. The skills needed within the food and drink industry range across nutrition, engineering, biochemistry, psychology, microbiology and the physical and chemical sciences.

KTN is a holding a one-day event, on 17th October 2017 in Birmingham, to give early career researchers an opportunity to highlight their work and showcase their talents to others in the broad area of UK food science and also to key figures in the UK food industry.

Early career researchers can apply to give oral and poster presentations at this event. Prizes will be available for the best presentations Рthese usually take the form of experiences (e.g. visits to companies’ headquarters and opportunities to present to industrial groups).

The day will also provide opportunities to network and find out more about the varied careers available in the food industry from our industrial speakers and other delegates.

This is the 5th time KTN has run this event, which is always well received by academic and industry participants alike.
