We are looking for assessors from a range of backgrounds which includes, but are not limited to, the below:
- Clinicians of all backgrounds including general practitioners and those with commissioning experience
- Neuroscience
- Neurodegeneration
- Neurotech
- Child health innovations
- Microbiome
- Infectious disease – including AMR and vaccines
- Oncology
- Female health innovation
- Implantable technologies
- Large language models
- Chronic wound healing
- Medical Imaging and radiology
- Prevention and public health
- Mental health
- Orthopaedics
Have you held senior positions and can demonstrate a track record of success in developing, commissioning or implementing health and life science innovations? If so, your expertise could be invaluable in assessing applications, evaluating their feasibility, and determining their potential impact.
Role of an assessor
Eligible applications are assessed by independent assessors in order to ensure the funding application assessment process is fair and transparent. The assessors are experts from across business and academia and are allocated based on the skills and expertise in the area relevant to the project.

How does it work?
Step one: If you are interested in being considered as an assessor, please complete the expression of interest form online here.
Step two: Expression of interests will be reviewed by Innovate UK (we aim to review submissions within 4-6 weeks)
Step three: If successful, you will be asked to complete assessors training which will include completing a skills matrix and provide a CV to evidence your expertise
Please note, once fully onboarded as an assessor, you may be asked to assess competitions on a sporadic basis. A successful application to the pool does not guarantee assessment work.
Assessors will be required to review and score applications in accordance with the Innovate UK framework, with remuneration at the standard assessment rate.
