EIT Health’s Innovation Uptake Call will support projects that aim to accelerate the market roll-out, commercialization and uptake of patient-centered digital- and AI-powered healthcare innovations such as digital medical devices and diagnostic solutions that are clinically validated and regulated (i.e. CE mark obtained, initial traction demonstrated, etc.), across one or several EU markets.
Proposed solutions must go beyond the state-of-the-art, have a clear medical purpose, and meet the definition of a digital medical device or in-vitro diagnostics device according to European regulations MDR 2017/745 and IVDR 2017/746. Proposals must address a critical, unmet healthcare need and harness digital technologies. They should demonstrate tangible health outcomes to patients across one or more stages of the patient care pathway, whether through screening, diagnosis, treatment and/or monitoring.
These devices could include software intended to be used alone or in combination with hardware (e.g. scanners, sensors, monitors, etc.) and include static and self-learning algorithms (e.g. artificial intelligence, machine learning). They can be used by patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals and health system users in the broadest sense.
These innovations should have already obtained formal regulatory approval (e.g. CE mark) and demonstrated some early market traction. They should now be at the stage of running real-world commercial pilots, building partnerships and generating additional robust evidence. This evidence can be used to demonstrate the solution’s relevance in the target market, demonstrate economic and commercial viability, test market access conditions, usage, and adoption by healthcare providers, patients and payors.
The following types of innovations are out of scope:
- A non-medical device or application.
- A product primarily designed for wellness or lifestyle purposes that can be used without medical oversight.
- A solution that does not directly address medical conditions or treatments.
- A healthcare management software that does not directly impact patient diagnosis, treatment, or care.
-
The call funds projects focused on:
- Commercialisation pilots in real-world healthcare settings.
- Product usability testing and market adaptation.
- Go-to-market strategy and business model validation.
- Health economic analysis.
- Reimbursement pathway development.
Projects should last maximum 15 months. All funded projects under this Call are expected to generate the following outcomes and long-term impact.
- An innovative solution is launched on the market, generating at least 10,000 EUR in sales revenues within one year after the end of the project.
- The solution benefits at least 150,000 European patients and citizens within three years after the end of the project.
-
Funded projects are expected to achieve:
- Launch of the innovation on the market with at least €10 000 revenue within one year post-project.
- Reach at least 150 000 patients or citizens within three years.
- Generate strong clinical, economic, and commercial evidence to support adoption.
- Demonstrate scalable, sustainable business and deployment models across European markets.
