The calls will provide €170m funding and significant opportunities for organisations working in biodiversity, conservation, environmental monitoring, nature restoration, sustainable business, and policy innovation. NATURE 2026 biodiversity calls

Ten biodiversity topics with budgets ranging from €4m to €50m per topic.

Open: October 2026 and June 2027
Close: January 2027, February 2027 and September 2027

Custer 6 2027 biodiversity calls

Nine biodiversity topics with budgets ranging from €7m to €24m per topic.

Open: 20 April 2027
Close: 22 September 2027

Background

Part of Horizon Europe‘s wider biodiversity portfolio, alongside the established Cluster 6: Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment work programme, the NATURE call aims to increase biodiversity investment across Horizon Europe by supporting additional research and innovation activities that contribute to the objectives of the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 and the EU’s longer-term vision for nature recovery

The calls focus on accelerating the transition towards a nature-positive economy and society, supporting projects that improve our understanding of biodiversity loss, protect and restore ecosystems, and help translate knowledge into practical action and policy impact. Topics require collaboration and a clear pathway to real-world impact.

Funding opportunities span a broad range of biodiversity challenges, including:

• understanding the impacts of PFAS pollution on biodiversity and ecosystem services
• assessing how the clean and digital transitions affect nature and natural resources
• developing systemic approaches to transformative change for biodiversity
• tackling the decline of invertebrates and pollinators
• creating living labs to test and scale nature restoration solutions
• improving biodiversity monitoring methods to support EU environmental legislation
• addressing wildlife trafficking and invasive alien species
• strengthening links between biodiversity, ecosystem health and human health through a One Health approach
• enhancing global ocean observation systems to support climate resilience and biodiversity conservation
