With a population of 2.6 million people, the North East’s economy generates a GVA of £52 billion each year, and jobs for over a million workers. It is connected to a diverse urban hinterland, with strong links to national and international markets through key gateways for freight and passengers, including rail, five seaports, and Newcastle International Airport.

Home to leaders in subsea advanced manufacturing and the offshore energy sectors, along with a diverse life science economy combining medical and biotechnology research, leading to medicine manufacturers exporting 95% of their output across the world. It is home to one of the UK’s fastest growing digital communities, hosting multinational brands such as software leaders Sage.

Innovate UK has partnered with the Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA) on a new plan to boost business productivity and innovation in the Tees Valley region.
