Making outdoor clothing inclusive and accessible
Larnia Ryder is the founder of Ryde, an innovative outdoor clothing brand reimagining adaptive and inclusive apparel. After experiencing the transformative power of nature during her own mental health journey, she combined her background in psychology, marketing, and design to create outdoor wear that breaks down barriers and challenges industry norms.
The outdoor clothing industry has significant gaps in inclusivity and designs that serve diverse needs. Ryde’s new collection ‘As Nature Intended’ integrates adaptive features and inclusive sizing, ensuring designs work for diverse identities, body types, abilities, and life stages. One wheelchair user reported, “This is the first time I’ve found comfortable clothing right for me. Your coat kept me warm, dry and I stayed out for hours, watching the waves.”
“The mission is to create sustainable, inclusive outdoor clothing that empowers everyone to experience the transformative power of nature. We believe in designing with purpose, ensuring every product is kind to people and the planet,” says Larnia.

A finalist in the 2024 Great British Entrepreneur Awards, Larnia has built strong partnerships with disability advocates and sustainability leaders. Her achievements include a Startup Award nomination recognising Ryde’s early impact in making outdoor activities more accessible.
“I’m overwhelmed to be a Women in Innovation Award winner,” says Larnia. “This award represents a huge milestone not just for Ryde but for the broader mission of inclusivity in the outdoor industry.”
“As a queer female founder, I’ve had challenges in being taken seriously, particularly when advocating for designs that challenge the status quo,” Larnia reflects. “Persistence, self-belief, and supportive networks have been crucial.”
Her vision for aspiring innovators? “You can’t be what you can’t see. We’re creating lasting impact by making the outdoor industry truly inclusive, fostering clear representation and a deeper connection between people and the planet.”
