Market Data Analyst

 

The Futures team produces research and analysis across Innovate UK Business Connect, using our unique business insights to make the case for policy and funding interventions in nascent but high potential markets.

The role of Market Data Analyst within Futures team is key. You will be responsible for collecting and collating data from a range of different internal and external sources and transferring it into information that can provide evidence and practical insights to inform potential areas of Innovate UK Business Connect activity.

You will be comfortable dealing with the design, management and analysis of primary data as well as investigating secondary data sources and exploring new avenues of enquiry in these datasets. You will work as part of a team creating the best possible representations of the data for internal use and when appropriate publication.

In this role, we will expect you to make use of a range of publicly available market data sources to analyse and track companies, identifying market trends and opportunities in the sectors Innovate UK Business Connect works within.

You will also work closely with other colleagues in our sector teams to effectively communicate our key findings.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Define, scope and harvest a wide range of internal and external data sets relevant to Innovate UK Business Connect’s vision and purpose
  • Collate and interpret this data to help shape the priorities of Innovate UK Business Connect and other organisations
  • Provide technical support and capability in the design and production of a coherent portfolio of data insights/ assets for Innovate UK Business Connect
  • Scope and develop any primary research required to collect data from Innovate UK Business Connect’s networks
  • Identify patterns and trends in data to inform evidence-based decision-making within Innovate UK Business Connect
  • Strengthening Innovate UK Business Connect’s analytical capabilities through creative approaches in visualising complex data sets clearly and concisely
  • Work closely with Innovate UK Business Connect’s Executive team to provide data, intelligence and recommendations on important emerging areas of innovation

Experience & Skills

Essential Experience

  • Degree qualified in related area – data analysis, economics etc
  • Ability to analyse and interrogate complex data sets using relevant tools
  • Experience in using third party data platforms e.g. Beauhurst, Patsnap
  • Ability to quickly grasp and analyse emerging technologies and their market implications
  • Good understanding of the Government policy environment for innovation and emerging technologies
  • Experience of high performance within a small team
  • Experience of complex research and evaluation including interpreting quantitative and qualitative data

Desirable Experience

  • Evidence of aggregation of data to drive decision-making and supporting large-scale business cases
  • Experience in business processes and project management

Skills

  • Highly numerate and analytical, with the ability to think strategically
  • A highly motivated, self-starting and results oriented individual
  • Relevant data and programming skills to manipulate, analyse and present a range of data sources
  • A good communicator with well-developed written and verbal skills, able to translate complex topics for broad audiences, including both business and policymakers
  • Excellent organisation, prioritisation, and project management skills
  • Able to interact with and understand the needs and capabilities with stakeholders across a range of technical and/or industrial disciplines
  • Disciplined, reliable and adaptable with time management ability to deliver autonomously within an effective team in a fast-paced environment
