Find out what large innovation challenges these key players are facing and put forward disruptive solutions that your new and cutting edge technologies could deliver. Innovate UK KTN’s Innovation Exchange provides you with the opportunity to become directly linked to, or collaborate with, key industry stakeholders who are actively seeking the most innovative solutions to help them achieve their full potential.
Recycled Aluminium Conductor Cable
An Innovate UK KTN Innovation Exchange client is seeking innovative approaches to rapidly recycle and reuse aluminium alloy cables as a high voltage conductor, which can offer the same electrical performance as industry-standard type registered conductor. The client maintains large grids in the UK and is looking to remove cables from above ground and transform them into cables that either meet the requirements for buried cables or provide a route for recycling them back into new cables that can be buried. The winning business(es) in this Innovation Exchange competition will be given an opportunity to present their solutions to the client, with the potential of a commercial opportunity to deliver their solution. Closes 4th March 2022 (deadline extended).
Marine Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) removal for offshore wind farms
The Innovation Exchange programme, delivered by Innovate UK KTN and supported by the Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult, is working alongside Hartley Anderson to identify innovative solutions to marine UXO clearance. Hartley Anderson, under a contract from BEIS, is looking for solutions that can increase safety, reduce impact on marine mammals and reduce the time taken to remove UXOs from the seabed. Closes 18th March 2022.
Innovative ways to renew small bore underground lead water pipes
The Innovation Exchange is working alongside Affinity Water, who are acting as a representative leader for a cross-industry working group researching improved methods for lead pipe replacement, including: Yorkshire Water, Welsh Water, Anglian Water and Severn Trent Water. The working group is looking to engage with innovators to help develop revolutionary and evolutionary methods to improve the replacement of lead water pipes between the water main in the street and customers’ properties. Replacement of lead pipes would remove potential health issues attributed to lead contamination for customers and reduce operational costs for water companies. Closes 31st March 2022.
Automated hydrogen production and storage at Sky Blu logistics hub
This Innovation Exchange competition, delivered by Innovate UK KTN (KTN), is supporting the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) to identify solutions to innovation challenges. This current challenge relates to the need to replace the existing fossil fuel at the Sky Blu Logistics hub on Antarctica with hydrogen. BAS would like to explore novel systems that automate the production and storage of zero carbon hydrogen at Sky Blu. Closes 1st April 2022.
