Call for expressions of interest: industry articles on emerging technologies
Help to identify new, disruptive technologies.
From the invention of the graphite pencil to the jet engine, the UK has led the way in scientific discovery and invention.
The UK is now second only to the US in the number of high-ranking universities (4 out of the top 10, according to the QS World University Rankings® 2016-2017).
We are also third in the world, just behind Switzerland and Sweden, in the annual Global Innovation Index, which uses a range of factors to determine a nation’s position in terms of capability for innovation. Clearly, the UK remains an abundant source of new knowledge, discovery and invention, helping to create totally new technologies, which have the potential to charge the future world.
Innovate UK defines an emerging technology as one that “is still emerging from, or has only recently emerged from, the research base”, allowing you to “do something that was not possible before … it disrupts existing markets, and leads to new ways of improving our lives and new sources of wealth generation”.
These transformational technologies offer opportunities for early market entry and the potential to gain a disproportionate share of the value.
The Emerging Technologies and Industries team at KTN aims to identify new, disruptive, technologies coming out of the research base. As part of this process, KTN would like to invite interested companies, working in current emerging technologies and industries, to work with KTN to write short articles on the current state of their sector and the challenges and opportunities facing it.
To facilitate the gathering of material, we can provide tickets to the Connecting Emerging Technologies with Global Brands conference in Berlin (10-11 May) and offer a small space to exhibit technologies in the main Exhibition Hall.
We are particularly interested in the areas of:
- Printed electronics
- 3D printing
- Wearable devices
- Graphene and non-carbon 2D materials
- Energy harvesting
- Energy storage
If you are interested in getting involved with this project, please contact Mark Littlewood by 31st March 2017.
