The 2017 Agri Innovation Den competition invites fledgling businesses to pitch Dragons Den-style for a share of £20 million.

The annual Agri Innovation Den competition is open to anyone with a ground-breaking agricultural business idea – providing finalists with the opportunity to pitch Dragon’s Den-style for a share of the investment prize fund, in exchange for a stake in their business.

The 2017 competition, organised by Briefing Media in association with Co-op Food and Mulberry Green, now has a total prize fund of over £20 million.

Finalists will also benefit from a guaranteed Briefing Media promotional package worth £5k, and on-going help and business support from the competition’s judging panel. This year’s judging panel will include: Neil Thackray, chief executive of Briefing Media; Emma Penny, Briefing Media group editor, Will Jackson, agricultural development manager for Co-Op Food, James Griffiths, Mulberry Green Fund chief investment officer and Phil Latham, Cheshire farmer.

Finalist projects from the 2016 Agri Innovation Den include:

• fieldmargin: an innovative app to help framers keep track of what is happening on their farms
• Using ‚Äòwisdom of the crowd‚Äô to create a prediction market for agriculture to deliver better price forecasting and help manage volatility.
• WeFarm – a network for the 500 million small-scale farmers around the world without internet access
• Milkalyser – a dairy cow fertility management tool which will automate sampling and analysis for progesterone
• Herdwatch – a farm management app which allows farmers to record their compliance and management information
• FarmSpace ‚Äì providing an industry specific networking space to help bring stakeholders, space from students to farmers, from farm workers to manufacturers, closer via the internet
• HarvestYield – helping agricultural contractors get paid faster by¬†automating the invoicing process and linking directly with external accounting software
• Drone AG – offers farmers an accessible route into drone-assisted precision agriculture by combining well-proven drone platforms with the latest multi-spectral sensors.
