Flying High Challenge launched to shape the future of drones
The Flying High Challenge is a collaborative engagement with up to five cities or city-regions across the UK to shape the future of drones.
Run by Nesta’s Challenge Prize Centre, in partnership with Innovate UK, the challenge seeks to empower UK cities to understand and plan for the implications of drone operations operating in urban environments.
So often, a new technology comes along and cities are left to accommodate it, but there is an opportunity for cities and local decision-makers to first identify if and how the public wants to see drones operate in their communities.
A central piece of this programme is a call to cities, under which five pioneering cities or city-regions will be selected to participate in the first phase of the programme. Applications are sought from forward-thinking cities/regions/local authorities that would like to participate in a four-month strategic visioning exercise in Winter/Spring 2018 to identify if and how drone systems could manifest within their communities. The application closing date is Friday, January 19.
