Positive impacts of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) reflected in Awards success

As one KTP project gets top prize at the Institution of Engineering & Technology Awards, 2 more are shortlisted in the Times Higher Education Awards.

One of the outcomes of a successful Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) collaboration between Heriot-Watt University and SP Energy Networks was winning the top prize of E&T Innovation of the Year at this month’s IET Innovation Awards.

The prestigious award was given for the partnership’s development of a “Network Constraints Early Warning System (NCEWS), which generates algorithms to extract information about missing cable assets and voltage excursions”.  Find out more here.

And, with this week’s Times Higher Education Awards fast approaching, there are two more KTP projects in the Awards spotlight: shortlisted in the Best Knowledge Exchange Transfer Initiative category are a KTP project between Manchester Metropolitan University and The Greater Manchester Youth Justice Partnership; and a KTP between the University of Suffolk and Orbital Media for their development of an innovative app to help children with asthma, My Spira. KTPs create dynamic, three way collaborations between an organisation, a team of academic experts and a talented graduate or post-grad. Together they work on a transformative project designed to deliver innovation impact and embed lasting knowledge. Part-funded by a grant from Innovate UK and other co-funders, KTPs have been helping UK organisations innovate for growth for over 40 years, and today around 800 organisations are participating in a KTP. This year sees the introduction of a new KTP with a specific management focus, designed to expand vital management capability to help companies grow.
