The Innovate UK Delivery Plan provides plenty of opportunities for Industrial Biotechnology and Synthetic Biology.
Helping businesses to innovate and grow with £561M investment
The Innovate UK Delivery Plan outlines the main ways in which it will invest around £561M in helping businesses to innovate and grow in the financial year 2016 to 2017, including:
- two broad Health and Life Sciences competitions
- two broad Manufacturing and Materials competitions
- two ‘open’ funding competitions or applications from any sector
- open knowledge transfer competitions through the year
- an open ‘growth and scale’ competition in Q3
The Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) and the Synthetic Biology Special Interest Group (SynBio SIG) held a webinar on 20th May 2016 to help companies and researchers understand the impact of these changes on funding for industrial biotechnology and synthetic biology.
In this webinar, Innovate UK’s Lead Technologist Chris Jones described these changes in more detail and discussed the various new funding opportunities, including the first call under this new system – the Manufacturing and Materials competition.Amy Tayler from KTN and SynBio SIG summarised the support on offer to potential applicants to ensure that their applications are within scope for the new Innovate UK call structure.
