Foodsteps: Reducing the environmental impact of food
The food system is a big contributor to the climate crisis and has a key role to play in helping achieve net zero emissions. Startup Foodsteps helps organisations track and reduce their environmental impact, and empower their customers to make more sustainable choices when it comes to food.
Getting support from our AgriFood team
The Foodsteps team got in touch in 2020 to get support with their application for Innovate UK’s Sustainable Innovation Fund. One of our AgriFood experts, Simon Baty, advised them on how to write a good application and the best way to present their project, and shared feedback on their proposal. Their application was successful, and the funding and support helped fast-track their innovative ideas.
The impact of getting funding
With support from the Sustainable Innovation Fund, the team was able to access the essential resources needed to transform their manual processes into a scalable digital platform. Footsteps is now an all-in-one digital platform that allows businesses to track their environmental impact easily and in real time. Businesses can also generate and download carbon labels for food, which can be displayed on the products they sell, making Footsteps a market leader in the field. Carbon labels are an innovative way to help consumers make informed decisions about food.
“From the first time I met the Foodsteps team, I knew that their ideas had the potential to make a real difference in the AgriFood sector. Especially when it comes to achieving net zero targets for the UK, and that’s something we’re really focused on. The platform they’re building thanks to the funding makes it really easy for AgriFood businesses and consumers to make better decisions, and ease of use is so important when it comes to adoption.”
