In this knowledge sharing webinar, we will hear from specialists in the skills industry in South Africa about the current challenges and opportunities we face and learn how international governments have overcome similar skills shortages through just transitions. We will discuss the nuances of the South African context compared to other economies and explore potential solutions that both private and public entities can collaborate on to solve these issues. The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)

The CSIR is a leading scientific and technology research organisation that researches, develops, localises and diffuses technologies to accelerate socioeconomic prosperity in South Africa. The organisation’s work contributes to industrial development and supports a capable state. The organisation plays a key role in supporting public and private sectors through directed research that is aligned with the country’s priorities, the organisation’s mandate and its science, engineering and technology competences.

The Presidential Climate Commission

The Presidential Climate Commission (PCC) is an independent, statutory, multi stakeholder body established by President Cyril Ramaphosa. They oversee and facilitate a just and equitable transition towards a low-emission and climate-resilient economy.

Each of the above organisations work diligently to build capacity for individuals, businesses and technologies with the ambition of South Africa becoming economically active in the green economy. Together, CSIR, Innovate UK KTN and the PCC are looking to find ways to collaborate for higher impact, and to learn from other regions to ensure the best way forward is used.

Global Alliance Africa

Innovate UK KTN’s Global Alliance Africa project is a 6-year project funded by UK Aid to drive knowledge transfer and collaboration that fosters long-lasting, strategic partnerships between Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, and the UK.
