Overview
Innovate UK, delivering on behalf of the Office for Life Sciences (OLS) Addiction Healthcare Goals (AHG), will invest up to £20 million to support innovation addressing drug and alcohol addiction healthcare challenges.
This applicant briefing webinar will provide an overview of the Addiction Healthcare Goals – Catalysing Innovation Awards scheme, its two funding strands and eligibility requirements.
About the competition
The aim of the AHG – Catalysing Innovation Awards scheme is to support and advance development to regulatory approvals and market readiness of promising innovative pharmaceutical, MedTech and digital interventions, for improving treatment, enhancing recovery, and reducing harm and deaths in illicit drug and alcohol addiction healthcare.
This competition is split into two strands:
- Contracts for Innovation in drug and alcohol addiction healthcare
- Advancing innovation in drug and alcohol addiction healthcare
The £20 million available funding will be awarded flexibly across these two strands depending on the distribution of quality of bids across each strand.
Competition focus
Contracts for Innovation in drug and alcohol addiction healthcare
100% funding awards of up to £1.5 million are available for 24-month projects. Funding is targeted at support for development of innovations with the potential to demonstrate initial efficacy and UK market fit by the end of the project through achieving:
- Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 or 7
- Established user acceptability and fit in relevant UK settings
- A completed business plan and clear pathway for securing relevant IP, regulatory and certification requirements
Awards are open to single applicants from academia, research institutions, healthcare providers, and other eligible organisations – see competition brief for full details.
Advancing innovation in drug and alcohol addiction healthcare
Grant funding awards are available for 36-month projects with a total project size of up to £10m. Funding is targeted at support for development of innovations with the potential to establish proof of real-world efficacy and robustly demonstrate UK market readiness by the end of the project by achieving:
- Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 8 or 9
- Necessary regulatory approvals and certification (or for these to be in train)
- Full market readiness analysis and clear plans for manufacturing and UK rollout
Awards are open to industry led consortia with grants of variable levels depending on company scale, and industry co-funding required.
