Applications and Manufacturing Workshop for Metamaterials
Join the Commercialising Metamaterials Innovation Network team at our next workshop on the 30th March. We will be exploring opportunities for metamaterials in the UK and associated manufacturing challenges.
In this workshop we are seeking to convene experts in the UK’s research base with industry experts (in terms of applications and manufacturing), to build a shared and clear understanding of what metamaterials technology can do to add value to a wide variety of sectors and applications. We aim to begin synthesizing the state of art from all three perspectives – science effects and technology concepts; the manufacturing ability to realise the concepts; and the applications.
Example application areas span concepts relevant to current commercial market spaces, such as:
- antenna in comms and acoustics in the built environment;
- emergent concepts and sectors such as LIDAR in autonomous vehicles;
- magnetics for imaging applications. Embracing dual-use relevance is also an implicit factor.
If you have expert knowledge relating to metamaterials science and technology concepts, or potentially relevant manufacturing processes (irrespective of any experience in making metamaterials) then ‘we need you’ at this workshop.
Example manufacturing areas of relevance include:
- additive manufacturing;
- roll-to-roll printing;
- lithography (and many more)
We will also value the participation of experts with knowledge of or from Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) or End User in potential exploiting sectors, including but not limited to transport, communications, energy and healthcare.
Researchers will have the opportunity to work with industry to help them envisage the technology in their application and the value it could add.
Come and join our workshop to be part of building the framework for a UK metamaterials revolution!
Expression of interest
Spaces at the workshop are limited so please do complete the form to express your interest and outline your background, to be considered. We shall review all expressions of interest and contact you before the event.

About the Metamaterials Innovation Network
Like all Innovation Networks run by KTN, the aim is to convene people who wouldn’t normally meet; to learn, connect and explore opportunities. This Innovation Network is a 2-year project run by KTN to ensure successful commercial exploitation and technology transfer of metamaterials through brokered or encouraged collaboration. Sign up here to become a part of the community and receive regular updates.
