About the events

With hydrogen playing a crucial role in achieving Net Zero, these sessions will provide valuable insights into its potential impacts, unpack common misconceptions and provide a forum for knowledge sharing. More importantly, the focus is on creating a ‘marketplace’ for hydrogen by connecting end users to the solution providers.

Who should attend?

Spanning academia, local authorities, innovators and industry, each session offers a unique perspective on the journey towards adopting hydrogen, including the challenges and opportunities it presents. While sessions are grouped by stakeholder groups, all are welcome to attend and can benefit from the discussions. You can find the details on each webinar below.

The webinars will also be utilised to receive live feedback to inform our future programs to support UK businesses and stakeholders.

Agenda: upcoming events

28 November – Hydrogen R&D – Bridging the gap between academia and industry (10:00 – 11:30)

Join us for the fifth webinar of the hydrogen myth busting webinar series. The fifth webinar in the myth-busting series will showcase innovative R&D projects that are advancing hydrogen technology to support the UK’s path to Net Zero. Discover how innovative research and strategic partnerships between academia and industry are driving progress towards a sustainable energy future.

Hear from leading experts across the UK on hydrogen research and innovation, including case studies on successful partnerships and emerging innovations. This session will offer key insights into the importance of industry-academia collaboration in accelerating the journey to Net Zero.

29 January 2025 – End users of Hydrogen and offtake agreements (10:00 – 11:30)

Join us for the sixth webinar of the hydrogen myth busting webinar series. The sixth webinar in the myth-busting series will showcase end use projects and end users of hydrogen technology to support the UK’s path to Net Zero.

The webinar also focuses collaboration between the technology providers and end users while the processes required to reach offtake agreements will be discussed as well. Speakers from Financial institutions, Investors, End users of hydrogen will provide insights through presentations and discussion. This session will offer key insights into the importance of collaboration, offtake agreements, insurance and factors needed to accelerate Hydrogen for Net Zero.

Previous events in the series

20 May – UK Hydrogen landscape: How hydrogen can unlock a greener future (14:00 – 15:00) – recording now available

The first webinar gave an overview of the key enablers of hydrogen as well as demystifying important topics within the hydrogen sector. Speakers from trade bodies representing hydrogen, industry, academia and local authorities featured and took part in a Q&A panel discussion.

The following were discussed:

  • Why we need to act now to meet Net Zero deadlines
  • Where the UK stands on the global race to Net Zero and why it’s at the forefront of delivering hydrogen innovation for decarbonisation
  • What issues are facing hard-to-abate industries like transport and industry i.e. legislation
  • What can hydrogen unlock for these sectors

16 July – Hydrogen Innovation in Industry (10:00 – 11:30) – recording now available

The second webinar in the myth-busting series will focus on business innovation and the role of hydrogen in supporting industrial decarbonisation efforts.

Various innovations happening across industry will be explored to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration between various stakeholders across regions.

We will discuss challenges and enablers of hydrogen and demystify some of the myths around hydrogen safety.

26 September – Local Authorities Working Towards Hydrogen (10:00 – 11:30) – recording now available

The third webinar in the myth-busting series will spotlight the experiences of local authorities in adopting hydrogen to address local net zero challenges.

The aim is to encourage the adoption and diffusion of hydrogen innovation among local authorities, whilst providing a forum for collaboration.

The session will look to unpack how local authorities can drive change in their respective areas and move towards Net Zero. Local authorities that have deployed hydrogen or are continuing to adopt and accelerate hydrogen will share their experiences to facilitate knowledge exchange across the UK.

21 October – Exploring Electrolytic Hydrogen (10:00 – 11:30) – recording now available

The fourth webinar in the Hydrogen myth-busting series will focus on electrolytic Hydrogen projects and demystify topics related to Renewables, Nuclear, cost of electrolytic Hydrogen, and practical aspects on creating Electrolytic Hydrogen economy. Guests from Industry, academia and government will provide insights on policies, share their key learnings and barriers in making Electrolytic Hydrogen a success.

The following will be discussed:

  • Why is electrolytic Hydrogen important for Net zero transition?
  • How does Electrolytic Hydrogen compare to Hydrogen produced by other means and why do we need Electrolytic Hydrogen?
  • Should we make sure that the large share of Hydrogen used is Electrolytic Hydrogen and why?
  • Curtailment is a huge issue, but we cannot rely on curtailed Renewable energy to run Hydrogen economy. what is the best way to get enough supply of Electrolytic Hydrogen?
  • How can Renewables, Nuclear and Hydrogen supply chain work together to achieve success/net zero?
