Smart Shipping Café: Sensing & Data

Join us for the first in our new Smart Shipping Café series — informal sessions designed to connect the maritime world with tech innovators, researchers and problem-solvers from across the UK.
When

10/09/2025 10.30 - 11.30

In this session, we’re diving into sensing and data:

  • How do ports and vessels gather and use data day-to-day?
  • What does cutting-edge innovation in this space look like?
  • And how do we know if the data we’re using is actually good enough?

We’ll hear from:

  • Simon Revell (Port of Dover) – sharing how Dover is using smart AI tools, CCTV analytics, and predictive data to improve how the port runs
  • Steve Reynolds (National Physical Laboratory) – exploring the hidden challenges of using data in modelling and simulation, and why quality matters

If you’re working in maritime, technology, research or innovation, this is a great opportunity to learn what’s happening in ports right now, where the real challenges are and how your work could help solve them.

Everyone’s welcome. Sign up, bring your ideas and get involved.
