About the event
Seaweed is a naturally occurring bio-feedstock that has been used in the UK for thousands of years. The processing of seaweed can produce a wide variety of products, including soil improver, animal feed and high value chemicals and pharmaceuticals.
But while interest is surging, access to seaweed raw materials in the UK remains limited, forcing many companies to look abroad for supply. This raises important questions about scalability, sustainability, and the future of seaweed processing in UK. Join us as we explore the potential of seaweed, the barriers to UK production, and the opportunities for collaboration, to strengthen and grow the UK seaweed industry.
Find out about Innovate UK’s feasibility funding to support the UK’s seaweed processors to identify and trial, or develop, new processing approaches for seaweed.
This event will provide an opportunity to meet and learn from others across connected industries. It will also be an opportunity to help scope potential future support for this area.
Who should attend?
This event is for anyone committed to advancing seaweed processing in the UK. Whether you’re already processing seaweed or working in a completely different sector—such as food, biotech, or biomass processing—but believe your expertise or innovation could be adapted to support seaweed processing, in particular with regards to improving yield, efficiency, product quality or product range.
Why should you attend?
Join us at this event to discover more about the resource efficiency for resilience and sustainability feasibility studies funding opportunity, which is offering up to £25k per project for innovative feasibility studies in novel, sustainable, low carbon materials and manufacturing, including seaweed processing and participate in:
- Connecting with others in the seaweed industry.
