The Next Generation Remote-Sensing Technologies project has positioned Glasgow at the forefront of high-performance sensing and imaging solutions. Through collaborative innovation and advanced electro-optic sensor development, the project is enabling breakthroughs across defence, healthcare, energy and security applications.

On 4 March 2026, Innovate Local Dorset brought together business leaders, entrepreneurs, researchers, and support organisations at the Executive Business Centre in Bournemouth for a day dedicated to unlocking innovation and driving regional growth.

Ahead of the planned launch of the first competition under the £40 million Water Innovation Cross-Sector Challenge this Spring, the Cross-Sector Water Innovation Network, funded by Ofwat’s Water Innovation Fund and delivered by Innovate UK, brought together experts from across the water and agricultural sectors to explore how cross-sector innovation can strengthen water resilience and sustainable water management across the UK agri-food system.

Innovative approaches, from integrated hydrological planning and nature-based solutions to circular economy innovation and the adoption of digital solutions, are already demonstrating tangible progress, highlighting the growing potential for closer cross-sector collaboration between water and agricultural stakeholders.

A £2.2 million National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) led initiative, the Data-Driven Design and Manufacturing (D3M) CoLAB is helping Scottish manufacturers adopt data science and AI. The project has supported organisations and people to build practical digital skills and help improve productivity, efficiency, sustainability, and competitiveness through data-driven manufacturing projects across Scotland.

Through automation, education, and industrial collaboration, the University of Strathclyde is transforming Glasgow’s manufacturing future. This project, focused on enhancing weld quality and boosting productivity, is reviving a proud legacy of heavy fabrication to meet the demands of a sustainable, net zero world.

Future aviation solutions such as drones, advanced air mobility and regional hydrogen or electric aircraft are expected to reach a market worth of $675bn by 2050. Innovate UK Business Connect has developed an interactive analysis to demonstrate the breadth of future flight capability in the UK, enabling you to source a capability, visualise its location in the UK and inform your investment decisions.

Over 95% of UK cargo imports and exports, by weight, are transported by sea contributing 8% of total UK transport GHG emissions in 2022. Innovate UK Business Connect has analysed UK’s maritime capability to identify regional clusters, drive investment and inform business decisions.

The Missing Link report, developed under Innovate UK’s Net Zero Living Programme in partnership with Regen and the Carbon Trust, shows how understanding and supporting community capacity can make climate action fairer and more effective.
