Innovate UK, in collaboration with the National Interdisciplinary Circular Economy Research (NICER) centres and KTN, will be hosting an online competition briefing webinar on the 18th October 2021 to introduce the planned Circular Economy for SMEs funding competition.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) develops when bacteria, fungi or viruses are exposed to antibiotics, antifungals or antivirals. As a result, the antimicrobials become ineffective and infections may persist. In addition, medical interventions including surgery, chemotherapy and stem cell therapy may become impossible. AMR is considered by WHO as one of the biggest global threats of Health and Food Safety.

Innovate UK and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), in collaboration with KTN, hosted an online competition briefing webinar on 5 October 2021 to explore the new Digital Security by Design: Software Ecosystem Competition.

Currently, over 600 million sponges go to landfill every year in the UK, with at least 80% of those sponges being made from virgin plastic. Seep (Sustainable Everyday Essential Products) is addressing this problem through the production of sustainable household products.

On 15th October 2021, KTN’s Decarbonising Ports & Harbours Innovation Network is hosting an interactive workshop to commence socialising our thoughts on whiteboards in order to frame, structure, and flow ideas into an upcoming Solutions Roadmapping report dedicated to the ports and harbours community. This exercise is crucial to allow us to take stock of the current solutions available and those at different stages of development.

This event presented examples of the application and implementation of quantum technology in the manufacturing and infrastructure industry. We brought the manufacturing and the quantum communities together and explore how both sectors can collaborate.

BAE Systems Surface Ships is looking for novel and innovative ideas and solutions to bring new thinking to the operation performance of a UK naval vessel and KTN is working with them via the KTN-iX programme to identify innovation solutions from SMEs, medium-sized enterprises and UK R&D Centres across application areas.

Labelling is an important process in selling goods, especially when it comes to food and drink. However, the labelling of such products is not as extensive as it should be, especially when it comes to packaged food that is made and sold in the same location. This is all about to change with Natasha’s Law coming into force in England on October 1st, 2021.

For many of us at KTN, industry events used to be part of daily life; but after a few hundred webinars later, do we still find live conferences as valuable as they once were? Time to find out!
