Advancing the manufacturing and deployment of cost effective vaccines in a changing landscape

Posted on: 05/04/2018

KTN is organising an event on 21st May with Imperial College to bring together the vaccine development and manufacturing community in human health.

While vaccination is widely recognised as a critical element of public health, it is estimated by the WHO that approximately 24m children per annum are still not properly vaccinated against prevailing infections, let alone have access to vaccines against emerging and re-emerging threats (e.g. Ebola, Zika etc). Indeed, the rapid expansion of populations in low and middle-income countries (LMIC) means they represent the largest need for vaccines.

The development of low cost, flexible and responsive manufacturing platforms involving both new production systems and improvements in existing ones will be essential to ensure vaccines are readily available to deal with emerging threats and are affordable for current and future mass vaccination campaigns.

KTN will be holding an event, in partnership with Imperial College, on 21st May in London to bring together the vaccine development and manufacturing community in human health in the UK, to learn about the latest innovative technologies, hear about current UK capabilities and Department of Health and Social Care investments to date, the work of the UK Vaccine Network, Future Vaccines Manufacturing Research hub(s) and also potentially future opportunities for funding through mechanisms such as the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.

The objective of the meeting is to bring together vaccinologists, bioprocessing, chemical engineering and manufacturing systems communities to explore new opportunities and challenges associated with designing, optimising and scaling up new technologies, improving cost and responsiveness within a rapidly changing landscape.

We are expecting about 50 delegates on the day from the wider sector. Thanks to the support of our hosts, and supporters, KTN is able to deliver this meeting as a free event for the community. This one day event aligns with the KTN’s activities in medicines bioprocessing and manufacturing, as well as the Medicines Manufacturing Industry Partnership (MMIP).

There will be an opportunity through partnering software to set up 1-2-1 meetings on the day at various networking times, to maximise opportunities for interaction and future collaborations. We hope that you can make the most of this and please do engage and accept meetings where possible.

There will be a chance for researchers to present posters. Please note your interest on registration and use the free text box to indicate title and short descriptor.

Please note, places for this event are limited and if the meeting is oversubscribed, places will be prioritised for those who are technical practitioners in the sector.

You can register your interest in attending this event here.
