Applications now open for Centre for Doctoral Training for Sustainable Electric Propulsion (CDT SEP)

CDT will create a new generation of UK power electronics and electric drives specialists and leaders.

CDT SEP are now recruiting for the next cohort and have a minimum of ten fully funded PhD studentship awards for the next cohort starting in September 2020.  Each student will then be assigned to either Newcastle University or University of Nottingham.

 

Sustainable Electric Propulsion CDT is a¬†collaboration between¬†two of the UK’s largest and most forward thinking research groups in electric propulsion: the Electrical Power Group at¬†Newcastle University¬†and the Power Electronics, Machines and Control¬†Research¬†Group at¬†the¬†University of Nottingham.

Who?

Students from many subject areas in:

• Engineering:¬† electrical, mechanical, material, big data
• Science:¬† physics, chemistry, maths

Equality, diversity and inclusion is at the heart of this CDT and we are looking for students from any background within an engineering or science discipline. You will have a minimum qualification of a 2:1 Bachelor’s degree.

 

Main activities over 4 years

Year 1

60 taught credits + thesis research such as literature review, becoming familiar with software and programming

Year 2-4

Multidisciplinary/cohort based activities + thesis research

 

Timescales

• Closing date for applications 15 February 2020
• Interviews held week beginning 2 March 2020
• Decisions and offer letters sent by 31 March 2020.

 

Eligibility criteria
These awards are available to UK/EU applicants only. Depending on how you meet the EPSRC’s eligibility criteria you may be entitled to a full or partial award. You will have at least a 2:1 Bachelor’s level degree in an engineering or science discipline.

 

Stipend
All students will receive the stipend set by EPSRC and the current rate is set at £15,009 per annum.  All students will also receive a budget for travel and consumables associated to their project.
