September saw the start of the Smarter Working Live conference, bringing together all strands of the public sector to share knowledge and best practice when it comes to smarter working. Discussions ranged from smarter building designs, serving vulnerable citizens, technology and AI.

The first day also saw a joint session delivered by the Cross Government Climate Hub (CGCH) and Innovate UK Business Connect, delving in to the ways of building collaborative communities, the top tips, the things to be aware of, and the need to unite the public sector as much as possible. The session was well attended and was delivered by staff and volunteers.

To round the two-day conference off, the second day saw the much-anticipated announcement of the shortlist for the Smarter Working Awards 2024. Across 14 categories, we saw a plethora of incredible public sector projects, from all areas of the sector, working in areas such as data, improving spaces, sustainable property, smarter workflows, and digital inclusion. But, the most awaited category was the Building Collaborative Communities category, which saw The Cross Government Climate Hub in partnership with the Net Zero Place Innovation Network at Innovate UK Business Connect being shortlisted.

Simon de Garis, one of the Hub’s coordinators, and Knowledge Transfer Manager said:

We are incredibly proud to be nominated, the Hub does incredible work in bringing together the public sector to address the challenges of Net Zero in a safe and supportive environment, the award nomination goes to highlight the incredible work of the Hub’s volunteers, often giving their time to develop and support the network around work and family life, and it shows the impact we can have across the public sector.

The awards will be announced at a black tie event in November.
