Cyber Security Academic Startup Accelerator Programme (CyberASAP) reveals 2022/23 cohort
Last week CyberASAP, and its latest cohort, began a new chapter to develop academic projects into fully-fledged spin-outs. The programme will run from April 2022 till February 2023, with two phases: Phase 1 – Value Proposition, in which the teams develop the VP and follow up with Market Validation followed by Market Validation, and then Phase 2 – which provides funding for Proof of Concept Development.
Department of Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) & UKRI plan to invest over £1m amongst the most promising commercial opportunities to accelerate the commercialisation of cyber innovations from UK academic Knowledge Bases into the wider market.
This year, CyberASAP has also welcomed projects from the Security of Digital Technology at the Periphery (SDTaP) initiative which includes the PETRAS IoT research hub. The UKRI-funded SDTaP competition provides funding to business-led demonstrators addressing cyber security challenges in the Internet of Things.
Commenting on the kick-off of CyberASAP 2022/23, Innovate UK KTN’s co-directors of the programme, Emma Fadlon and Robin Kennedy said:
“We’re excited to meet and begin working with the new cohort in 2022/23 after the highest level of applications in the programme’s history. We’re particularly happy to have project teams originating from each UK nation all represented in one cohort for the first time and that we are all coming together for a face-to-face 2-day kick off workshop.
Ourselves and a host of innovation mentors throughout the programme will be working with the teams to help them achieve commercialisation”

About CyberASAP
CyberASAP is funded by the UK Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and delivered by Innovate UK KTN and Innovate UK in partnership. Now entering its sixth year, the programme has seen 116 academic teams from across the UK participate, and 57 graduate (the programme is selective throughout).
