Defence and Security Accelerator competition: Space To Innovate
DASA seeks proposals for novel and innovative solutions that can develop the UK’s Defence and Security space capabilities.
This Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) competition seeks proposals for novel and innovative solutions that can develop the UK’s Defence and Security space capabilities; specifically those that are not being matured in the civil space industry. The 4 challenge areas are:
- Defending future UK space assets
- Novel sensing and Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance (ISR) enablers
- Characterisation of objects in space and their intent
- Overcoming the technical issues of ‘Space to Sea Level’ optical communications
Proposals for funding to meet these challenges must be submitted by 26 June 2019 at midday via the DASA submission service, for which you will be required to register in advance.
Background and further information
The space environment is becoming increasingly congested and contested. Satellites are becoming smaller and are being launched more frequently. This creates many challenges as well as opportunities for defence and security. This Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) call aims to aid UK Defence and Security to develop future space technologies that may not otherwise be developed in the civil space industry.
The competition is envisaged to have 2 phases; phase 1 of this competition is intended to demonstrate proof of concepts that can be further developed and integrated during later phases.
The total funding for all phases of this competition is expected to be at least £2.25 million. However, each phase 1 proposal will be capped at £200k.
