Diagnostic Evidence Workshops Announced

The NIHR Community Healthcare Medtech and In vitro Diagnostics Cooperative has organised a series of three workshops on Diagnostic Evidence.

The workshops are aimed at professionals undertaking work on diagnostic tests, working in industry, academia, research funding and regulatory affairs. The three workshops are hosted by the Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and shall take place from Wednesday 26th September – Friday 28th September at Worcester College, Oxford.

The first of the three workshops (Wednesday 26th September) shall be an ‘Introduction to Evaluation of Diagnostics’, taught by diagnostics researchers. It will enable participants to grasp a basic understanding of the evaluation of diagnostic tests, including health economics and statistics, as well as pragmatic study design, and the challenges currently facing the diagnostics industry.

The second workshop (Thursday 27th September) is titled ‘Cost-Effectiveness Analysis of Diagnostic Tests for Development and Adoption’ and is aimed at professionals, in both academic and commercial settings, who are already involved in the development and evaluation of diagnostics. Previous knowledge of diagnostic accuracy and clinical effectiveness is important.

The third of the workshops (Friday 28th September) focuses on ‘Statistical Methods for Diagnostic Accuracy in Medical Research’ and is mainly aimed at researchers who analyse their own diagnostic accuracy data. This session shall have a focus on measures of diagnostic accuracy, ROC analysis, comparing diagnostic tests and finding optimal thresholds. It shall be very practical so participants can gain hands-on experience of analysing diagnostic accuracy data.

Each workshop costs £190.00 to attend, and it is permitted to attend either one, two or all three.
