How the UK Agri-Tech Centres could help transform food production

The capabilities of the UK’s Agri-Tech Centres were showcased at two events focused on the Plants & Crops and Livestock sectors in March 2019.

Building on the success of a similar event last year, the 2019 Agri-Tech Centres Showcase was bigger and better.

KTN worked with the Agri-Tech Centres to host two showcase events (for the plant & crop sector and the livestock sector) to allow stakeholders from across the agri-food supply chain to find out more about the capabilities of the Agri-Tech Centres and particularly the leading R&D capabilities and unique facilities accessible from each Centre. There was also a theme to demonstrate how the Agri-Tech Centres can contribute to the UK’s Industrial Strategy of “Transforming Food Production” with a focus on the development and adoption of disruptive data-driven solutions.

About the UK’s Agri-Tech Centres

The 2013 Agricultural Technologies Strategy set out a vision for the UK to become a world leader in agricultural technology innovation and sustainability. As part of this strategy, the UK government made a significant investment in four key Agricultural Technology Centres (Agri-Tech Centres):

*  Agri-EPI Centre – Centre for precision agriculture and engineering

* Agrimetrics – Centre of excellence for big data across the agri-food sector

*  CHAP – Centre for innovation in crop health and protection

*  CIEL – Centre for innovation excellence in livestock

The Agri-Tech Centres provide a gateway for business to access the best scientific expertise – stimulating new research, practice and technology for the agri-food sector. Each Centre has its own unique focus; building capabilities that can lead the world in delivering sustainable food and farming solutions.
