The 2018 CRACK IT Challenges are now live.¬† This year’s competition consists of three Challenges identified jointly by the NC3Rs and Sponsors.¬† Funding is provided by the NC3Rs with co-funding provided by EPSRC (RaTS) and in-kind contributions are provided by the Sponsors.¬† There are four Sponsors (Galvani Bioelectronics, GSK, MRC Harwell Institute and Sanofi Pasteur EU).
Challange 29 : ImmuLiver
To develop an in vitro model of the human liver that is metabolically and immunologically-competent for the routine assessment of Yellow Fever (YF) vaccine attenuation.
Challenge 30 : RaTS
To develop and validate a handheld device for objective monitoring of the progression of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in concious rodents.
Challenge 31 : Moshers
To develop an approach/device to accurately measure individual food intake (real time measurement or proxy) in group-house mice (three to five mice).

About the competition
CRACK IT Challenges is a research competition to solve scientific and business problems identified by the bioscience sector. The Challenges are designed to reduce the reliance on animal models and/or improve animal welfare and lead to the development of marketable products. The CRACK IT Two Phase Challenges competition is run using the SBRI process which is supported by Innovate UK and Challenges are sponsored by companies who provide in-kind contributions such as data, validation and expertise.
