Opportunity to join manufacturing and remanufacturing mission to China

The UK has the potential to become a world leader in the fourth industrial revolution by 2030 if a combined package of measures are delivered according to the recent “MADE SMARTER REVIEW” which suggested that the positive impact of faster innovation and adaption of IDTs (Industrial Digital Technologies) could be as much as 455 billion pounds for the UK manufacturing over next decades. Areas of IDTs in manufacturing includes automation of manufacturing processes, robotics, additive manufacturing, artificial intelligence, virtual reality etc.

China has just overtaken the United States as the world‚Äôs largest economy. With the mature of the economy comes the ambition to move its manufacturing value chain to high value added and intelligent manufacturing. The ‚ÄúMade in China 2025″ strategy was published in 2015 designed to transform China from a manufacturing giant into a world manufacturing power. Intelligent manufacturing is an essential element underpinning the strategy.

There are increasing recognition of the collaboration potential between China and the UK. A joint governmental strategy between the UK and China to strengthen science and innovation collaboration has been recently signed between BEIS and the Minister of Science and Technology (MoST). The 9th UK-China Economic and Financial dialogue has established a new strategy to support partnerships between academics, researchers and businesses in both countries to create new opportunities to tackle global challenges

Supported by Foreign Commonwealth Office and Knowledge Transfer Network, a China mission is currently being organised to take place on 12th -14th March 2018 by University of Brighton. The agenda will include workshops in intelligent manufacturing & remanufacturing and a visit to industry demonstration base. The purposes of the China mission are:

• To understand governmental policies in intelligent manufacturing in China (e.g. Made in China 2025) and the UK (Industrial Challenge Strategy)
• To identify synergies between these two Countries in the field of intelligent manufacturing;
• To further explore the mechanism for collaboration between stakeholders in China and the UK in key areas of intelligent manufacturing;
• To promote the collaboration between industrial professional association between China and the UK.

The workshop will be attended by representatives from stakeholders in intelligent manufacturing including governmental policy makers, funding agencies, industry associations, industrialists and research institutions.
