Review into Knowledge Exchange in the Mathematical Sciences: Call for Evidence
The review seeks to cover all aspects of knowledge exchange.
Background
This call for evidence is part of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and the Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) supported Review into Knowledge Exchange in the Mathematical Sciences chaired by Professor Philip Bond.
The review seeks to cover all aspects of knowledge exchange; covering research to research interactions, and research to industry (in its broadest sense) interactions. It is vital to the future of UK growth that knowledge discovery is shared and capitalised upon.
The objectives of the review are to:
- seek examples of good practice in KE for the mathematical sciences
- consider and review models for support, incentivisation, promotion and governance of KE activities in the mathematical sciences
- explore similarities and differences between KE in the mathematical sciences and other disciplines
- make recommendations in a public report.

Call for Evidence Questions
In answering the questions below, please draw on your own knowledge and any other sources of evidence you may wish to bring to the attention of the Review Board.
We are encouraging institutional / organisational responses to this call for evidence.
- What are the strengths and weaknesses of the current support mechanisms in place in the UK to assist in knowledge exchange in the mathematical sciences?
- How is mathematical knowledge exchange currently incentivised and are there any more effective ways to incentivise knowledge exchange?
- Are there any challenges to knowledge exchange which are unique to the mathematical sciences? What are they? Please also identify opportunities to learn from approaches to knowledge exchange in other disciplines.
- What are the key opportunities for the UK economy, society, people and knowledge associated with effective knowledge exchange in the mathematical sciences? What do you think the missed opportunities could be? When answering the above, please consider: What are the current opportunities? What are the opportunities looking to the future?
