The UK National Quantum Technologies Showcase will return live at the Business Design Centre in London on 5 November

Posted on: 21/10/2021

The UK National Quantum Technologies Showcase features 60 of the UK’s most exciting projects from across the Quantum landscape demonstrating the growing commercialisation and industrialisation of quantum technologies in the UK.

The free-to-attend event, which showcases all of the progress made by the UK National Quantum Technologies Programme and in the commercialisation of quantum technologies in the UK over the last 12 months, returns in-person for its 6th year.

Bob Cockshott, the UQ National Quantum Technologies Programme lead at KTN, says, “The UK is a world leader in the research, development and, critically, commercialisation of quantum technologies, and the Quantum Showcase is where the sector gets to show its progress to the government and industry.”

Here we meet 8 of the organisations who will be showcasing the very latest advancements in quantum science and technology.

Aquark Technologies – Cutting-edge innovator in quantum technologies that promise to radically multiply our ability to sense, measure and compute on a mass-market scale. Aquark has created a low-cost, matchbox-sized, low-power module based on ultra-cold atoms – the Aquark Cube.

“Quantum technology should not be limited to highly controlled laboratories and at Aquark we want to show how quantum supremacy in sensing and timing is ready to be brought out of the lab. Using compact and robust trapped cold atoms, we are offering a platform that will enable practical solutions. We are looking to raise awareness for our technology and searching for new partnerships in the quantum supply chain.”   Alex Jantzen, PhD, Co-founder and COO, Aquark Technologies

The Quantum Computing & Simulation Hub, a collaboration between 17 UK universities, is one of four hubs within the UK National Quantum Technologies Programme. Working with an extensive network of academic, industrial, and governmental partners, we are focused on the critical research challenges for quantum computing, across a broad range of hardware and software disciplines.

“It’s exciting for us within the Hub that the Showcase has returned as an in-person event. The Showcase is a key event within our calendar, and we are looking forward to meeting the UK quantum technology community, making new contacts in industry and academia, and seeing how the community has progressed over the last year.” – Professor Dominic O’Brien, Director of the QCS Hub.

University of Sussex – Our research groups are harnessing and exploiting quantum physics research to create transformational commercial products with the potential to change the way we live and work. At this critical time for the development of quantum technologies, we are working at the forefront with over 100 researchers based in some of the largest, state-of-the-art laboratories in the UK. We are proud to collaborate with major industry players, as well as numerous international universities and research centres.

“Exhibiting at the Quantum Technologies Showcase is always a highlight of our year. It is a fantastic opportunity for us to share our most recent successes in translating research into new technologies as well as to find out about exciting developments across the community.”   Professor Jacob Dunningham, Deputy Director of the Sussex Centre for Quantum Technologies.

Quantum Technologies for Fundamental Physics is a UKRI funded Strategic Priorities Fund investment which is part of the NQTP. Led by STFC with EPSRC as partner, this programme aims to position the UK as a world leader in the exploitation of quantum technologies for physics applications.

The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is the UK’s National Metrology Institute and home to the Quantum Metrology Institute (QMI). The QMI brings together all of NPL’s cutting-edge quantum science and metrology research and provides the expertise and facilities needed for academia and industry to test, validate, and ultimately commercialise new quantum research and technologies. NPL has been a partner organisation within the UK National Quantum Technologies Programme (NQTP) since its inception in 2014 alongside other government agencies such as Innovate UK, EPSRC, STFC, and DSTL.

“It’s a delight to see the annual National Quantum Technologies Showcase return to an in-person event this year; it is always a great event to meet friends and colleagues in industry, academia and our partnerships. Since last year’s online event we have made significant strides in the NPL Quantum Programme covering topics from the creation of new facilities, working on new measurement standards and expanding our active collaborations with industry and other research organisations around the UK. One of our key objectives is to help accelerate the commercialisation of quantum technologies and to that end our Measurement for Quantum (M4Q) programme provides access to our scientists and facilities at no charge. We look forward to welcoming you to our stand.” Rhys Lewis – Head of Quantum Metrology Institute, NPL.

QuantIC – The UK Hub for Quantum Enhanced Imaging – The UK’s EPSRC funded Quantum Imaging Hub. It aims to translate quantum imaging research and bring it to the commercial marketplace. QuantIC is revolutionising imaging and sensing across a variety of sectors.

“The UK National Quantum Technologies Showcase provides a platform to share new technologies from our multimillion-pound programme to world-leading industries and academics. Our team will be on-hand to demonstrate state-of-the-art quantum imaging capabilities and explore how we help provide novel solutions. QuantIC’s Partnership Resource Fund allows our prize-winning team of academics to make your challenges and collaborations in quantum imaging a reality.”  Christopher Payne-Dwyer

Quantum Technology Hub Business Development Manager, QuantIC

Kelvin Nanotechnology is an internationally recognised provider of advanced photonics and quantum components. As one of the first suppliers of miniaturised quantum components in the market, we drive forward innovation in the fabrication of quantum components integral in quantum systems for computing, sensors, and high precision timing and navigation.
