Opportunity to pitch your innovation to Cadent Gas who are leading the work on behalf of all UK network operators. Selected solution(s) will be trialled by Cadent in the London region, with the possibility of further adoption upon successful trials.
Cadent is the UK’s largest Gas Distribution Network Operator (GDNO), bringing gas to 11 million homes and businesses. They manage a network of more than 82,000 miles of pipes, most of them underground, which transport gas throughout the North West, West Midlands, East Midlands, South Yorkshire, East of England and North London.
Cadent is responsible for delivering gas to a large number of multi occupancy buildings across their regions. They maintain the pipework that connects the local gas network to individual gas meters within the apartment block, namely the gas riser and laterals.
A gas riser is a large diameter pipe which connects the multi occupancy building to the main gas network locally. It rises through the apartment block from underground and branches into laterals. Laterals are smaller diameter pipes that branch off the gas riser and deliver the gas to individual apartments. Laterals connect the gas riser to the individual gas meters for each property.
The Challenge
Locating gas risers and lateral pipework within existing multi occupancy buildings is very challenging. Cadent may not have access to every home in the apartment block and even with access the pipework will be hidden within walls and floors. This is particularly challenging in old and listed buildings where the fabric of the building can’t be disturbed.
Cadent Gas is looking for innovative solutions which enable efficient, non-intrusive identification of hidden gas pipework (the gas riser and laterals) and the creation of an accurate schematic, in multi-occupancy buildings.
