The Quantum Business Incubation Centre (QuBIC) is designed to support early-stage quantum technology companies achieve their commercial potential by de-risking their route to market. It enables early-stage companies to develop new products or services based on quantum technologies (including computing, imaging, sensing, networks, cryptography, simulation, etc.).

The QuBIC builds upon the Science and Technology Facilities Council’s strong track record of managing support programmes and facilities for small businesses across its locations and the technical expertise both at STFC’s National Laboratories and at our partner organisations, such as The National Quantum Computing Centre.

While the QuBIC will ultimately support start-ups working across the spectrum of quantum technologies, our current focus will be on supporting Quantum Computing start-ups. The QuBIC will support businesses developing Quantum Technologies (Quantum Computing- software and hardware, Quantum Sensing, Quantum Communications, etc.)

The QuBIC provides an outstanding support package for start-ups. Successful applicants will be provided with:

  • up to £50k targeted development funding to create a minimum viable product
  • up to £10k R&D vouchers to spend with public sector partners
  • up to 50 hours of business support
  • networking and introductions to investors, funders and stakeholders
  • engagement with campus and cluster ecosystems

Located within the Harwell Science and Innovation campus, the QuBIC will enable technology businesses to access, and benefit from, the wider collaborative ecosystem on campus. The campus is also the home to three well-established industrial clusters specifically dedicated to the health, space and energy sectors.

To be eligible for the QuBIC you must be :

  • a new or existing UK registered company, which is less than 10 years old, with a viable business plan
  • majority owned by founders and employees
  • within programme scope
  • at TRL 3-6

The next expression of interest deadline is 18 July 2025.
