Adam Tuff
Knowledge Transfer Adviser - Newcastle, Durham, and Sunderland
Adam is a Knowledge Transfer Adviser, based in the North East of England, covering Newcastle, Durham, and Sunderland. Adam supports knowledge transfer via Innovate UK’s Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) programme, which provides vital connections between business and academia through innovative projects, generating transformational changes to business performance.
Adam joined IUKBC following more than a decade developing novel ionising radiation detectors for use in civil nuclear, defence, industrial, and oil & gas industries.
After graduating with an MPhys in Physics from the University of York, Adam returned to complete a Ph.D in Nuclear Physics in the following years. He began his career developing novel, compact ionising radiation detectors. Adam had previous involvement with a KTP, which resulted in a multi-million pound contract for homeland security applications, and won the prestigious Institute of Physics Innovation Award in 2016.
Adam has grown and developed scientific teams to increase support day-to-day operations, as well as and kickstarting new product development. In his last role, Adam authored innovation management practices within the company, establishing processes which resulted in successful collaborations with academia and industry.
Adam is a keen participant in the promotion of STEM careers having been involved in numerous outreach programmes to promote jobs in physics. Adam has also authored a children’s book, The Stuff Stars Are Made Of, aimed at teaching young audiences about nuclear physics and the life cycle of stars, with the book finding success and distribution through the Binding Blocks outreach programme.
