Ciaran McCartan

Knowledge Transfer Adviser ‑ Northern Ireland

As a Knowledge Transfer Adviser in Northern Ireland, I currently work with a number of live and developing KTP’s, covering companies from a wide range of industrial sectors and involving both University and Further Education College partners.

The Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) support businesses to engage with expert academic teams on a project-based collaboration delivering sustainable innovation with positive economic impact and additional societal or environmental benefits. I look after businesses supporting their projects with knowledge bases in many parts of the country, and also maintain relationships with a number of designated universities and colleges in relation to their participation in the programme.

I graduated with a HND in Applied Microbiology and then completed a BSc Hons in Applied Biochemical Sciences, both from the University of Ulster, before completing a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management at University College Dublin. I have been involved in quality, research and innovation for over 27 years, 11 years in private sector food and pharmaceutical companies and then over 16 years working as an Innovation Adviser, for Invest Northern Ireland’s R&D division.  I have worked for various companies from small private firms, to large multinational food and human and veterinary pharmaceuticals.  My work with Invest Northern Ireland focussed on supporting companies of all sizes, from start up’s to multinationals, to access government funding for their R&D projects.
