Dr Matthew Reeves

My role is to accelerate innovation in critical materials/minerals (CMs) to create resilient, sustainable and secure CM supply chains for the UK economy and society. CMs (as defined by the UK’s CM Strategy) are crucial for a range of modern technologies including renewable energy generation, electrified transport, consumer electronics, aerospace, chemicals production and defence applications. I am keen to speak with innovators and stakeholders involved or interested in the following:

• Geological exploration, prospecting, and mining of CMs either in the UK or abroad
• Mid-stream processing (concentration, separation and refining) of CMs including chemical, metallurgical and biological methods
• CM-dependent manufacturing
• Circular economy of CMs including reuse, remanufacture, recycling and valorisation of tailings and other wastes
• Development of alternative technologies or materials to reduce our reliance on CMs (including substitution, thrifting and reformulation)
• International collaboration on any and all of the above
