Susie Ranford
Knowledge Transfer Adviser - North Scotland
I am one of two Knowledge Transfer Advisers for the North of Scotland, responsible for developing and managing a portfolio of Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTPs) between businesses and academia.
The Knowledge Transfer Partnerships support businesses to engage with expert academic teams on a project-based collaboration delivering sustainable innovation with positive economic impact and additional societal or environmental benefits. I support businesses collaborating with knowledge bases in many parts of the country, and also maintain our relationship with the University of the Highlands and Islands in relation to their participation in the programme.
I hold an MPhys in Mathematical Physics and a PhD in Computational Physics from the University of Edinburgh. My career has been varied as I’ve worked in different technology and market sectors, as well as in different sizes and types of organisations. My experience includes technical, commercial and management roles in public sector research and development (sensors and software engineering), a wave energy start-up, and cross-sector product design engineering consultancy. I’ve also spent a year travelling all over Scotland researching and writing a trail running guidebook.
