Connecting people through power: an interview with ChargeShare
The Net Zero Places Innovation Network recently spoke with Mohamoud Dadey, Founder of ChargeShare about their community-driven approach to electric vehicle (EV) charging points.
About ChargeShare
ChargeShare is a platform designed to keep you connected to nearby EV charging stations, providing you the flexibility to charge whenever and wherever you need.
About the Net Zero Places Innovation Network
The Net Zero Places Innovation Network supports local authorities with their Net Zero journey, and engages with many businesses across a wide range of sectors to support them in public sector procurement. It aims to bring the latest products and services to the forefront, to ensure local authorities are aware of the innovations being developed across the UK.
Shared resources
Let’s start with the origins of ChargeShare
What inspired you to create this innovative platform? ChargeShare was born out of a simple yet powerful idea—connecting people through power. During my time in the EV sector, I noticed a significant challenge: many EV owners couldn’t charge their vehicles at home, especially in urban areas like apartments or terraced streets, where personal charging facilities are often unavailable. I realised that a solution could lie within our communities. Why not enable EV drivers to charge their vehicles at a neighbour’s home or somewhere nearby? That’s how ChargeShare came to life. We offer a convenient, cost-effective, and safe alternative to public charging stations, driven by the concept of shared resources.
That’s a fantastic solution to a growing problem. Can you tell us more about what sets ChargeShare apart from other EV charging solutions?
What makes ChargeShare unique is our community-driven approach. We’re not just about providing connections to charging points; we’re about fostering connections. Our platform allows homeowners with chargers to share them with EV drivers in their vicinity, creating a personalised and trustworthy charging experience. This match-making approach is at the heart of what we do—drivers can see exactly where they’ll be charging, making the process transparent and secure.
Additionally, we focus on accessibility. We’re committed to ensuring that everyone, including those with disabilities, has easy access to charging. We are looking to work closely with organisations that support disabled motorists to remove barriers and make charging inclusive for all. Safety and convenience are also top priorities, allowing users to choose their charging hosts, ensuring a secure and supportive environment.
Accessibility and inclusion
Accessibility is clearly a key value for ChargeShare. How are you ensuring that your platform is inclusive for everyone?
Accessibility is one of our core principles. We want to ensure that anyone who owns an EV, regardless of their circumstances, can charge their vehicle easily and safely. Our app is designed to be user-friendly and intuitive, and we’re planning to integrate features that will specifically assist those with mobility challenges.
We’re also hoping to collaborate with organisations such as Motability and Disabled Motorists UK amongst others to expand our reach and ensure that our services are accessible to as many people as possible. It’s important to us that ChargeShare serves everyone making the shift to electric vehicles, not just a specific segment of the population.
Sustainability and green technologies
Beyond EV charging, you’ve mentioned a broader vision for ChargeShare, especially concerning green building and clean energy. Can you share more about that?
My vision for ChargeShare extends beyond EV charging. I want to spotlight innovative initiatives within the green space, such as sustainable construction practices and groundbreaking green technologies. There’s a stigma attached to clean energy—people often perceive it as expensive or inconvenient. Through ChargeShare, I hope to change that narrative by showcasing real-world examples of how these green initiatives can be practical, cost-effective, and beneficial.
By sharing stories and insights from those who are already leading the way in sustainability, we can educate and inspire others to follow suit. This is about building for the future while addressing the critical issues of our time, such as climate change. We want to be a platform not just for EV charging but for broader conversations around sustainability and community-driven innovation.
Connecting communities
ChargeShare’s mission clearly goes beyond just connecting individuals. How do you see local authorities, housing associations, and businesses getting involved?
Local authorities, housing associations, and the wider public sector play a crucial role in shaping sustainable communities, and ChargeShare can be an integral part of that effort.
By partnering with us, these organisations can support EV adoption, reduce carbon emissions, and foster community engagement.
ChargeShare into new developments provides residents with a practical, built-in solution for EV charging, enhancing the appeal and sustainability of their projects. For businesses, ChargeShare offers a flexible and efficient way to manage EV charging for their fleets. If their vehicles are out on the roads or stored at employees’ homes overnight, ChargeShare makes it easy to find local charging options. Additionally, businesses with EV chargers on their premises can rent them out during off-peak hours, turning unused resources into revenue streams. It’s all about connecting people through power, whether that’s between neighbours, employees, or within the broader community.
That’s an inspiring approach. Finally, what message would you like to share with those considering joining ChargeShare, whether as a user or a supporter?
Joining ChargeShare isn’t just about finding a place to charge your car; it’s about becoming part of a community. It’s about gaining the keys to a new connection, where we support each other and work together towards a sustainable future. We’re here to make EV ownership practical, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, but I’m even more excited about what’s to come. The support we’ve received has been incredible, and it fuels our mission to make a real difference. So, to anyone considering ChargeShare—whether you’re an individual, a business, or a public sector organisation—come join us. Together, we can build a better, greener world.
