UKCPN runs events and activities to bring together the diverse users of plastic products and realise the best means for reducing plastic waste.
The Circular Plastics Network (UKCPN) has created a coordinated, integrated and aligned community of stakeholders in order to share best practice, focused on unlocking the most critical, short term barriers to plastics circularity.
UKCPN facilitates:
- Eliminating the volume of plastic waste arising from within the UK.
- Raising awareness and sharing best practice to improve the rate of UK plastic recycling.
- Sharing best practice to reduce levels of confusion amongst citizens and highlighting user-centred design.
- Showcasing innovation that is focused on reducing the amount of plastic ending up in the environment.
UKCPN is an activity supported by UK Research and Innovation and forms part of the Plastics Research Innovation Fund (PRIF), which is engaging Britain’s best scientists and innovators to help move the country towards more circular economic and sustainable approaches to plastics.

Innovation Champions: Global Alliance Africa announces winners of the Sebenzisa Tembisa Waste Challenge!
Tembisa, South Africa, is catalysing innovation in working towards a future without waste. Four new pilot projects will soon be launched in the township, helping to create sustainable, circular economies for waste management in one of the country’s largest urban areas. This follows the successful close of the Sebenzisa Tembisa Challenge, an initiative of Innovate UK’s Global Alliance Africa project, that aims to bridge the gap between research, innovation and real-world impact.

Industry and academic research leaders unite at global plastics sustainability conference
Back for its 3rd year, the Global Research Innovation in Plastics Sustainability (GRIPS) conference welcomed 1,000 delegates to the Coventry Building Society Arena, with a live stream available for online viewers. The show featured a variety of talks from leading experts in plastics and materials across academia and industry, united by the mission to prevent plastic waste becoming fugitive in the environment.
