Projects

A group of seven UK delegates, all active in the UK Advanced Manufacturing industry, met with key stakeholders from both private and public sector organisations in Türkiye. The mission was held in three separate locations in Türkiye over five days. UK delegates started in the capital Ankara, moving on to Bursa, then spending three days at various locations in Istanbul. The GEM focused on how materials and manufacturing organisations can be more sustainable and resource-efficient, leading to increased resilience and/or technological advancement.

The Advanced Manufacturing Expert Mission travelled to Waterloo, Winnipeg and Montreal in December 2017 to share the information and insights gathered during the delegation’s time in Canada.

The Advanced Materials Expert Mission travelled to Israel in February 2018. Here, we share the information and insights gathered during the delegation’s time in Israel.

In March 2018, a UK delegation supported by British Embassy staff travelled to South Korea and met with government officials, academics and commercial entities. The UK’s Advanced Materials Mission gained exposure to nearly twenty advanced materialsrelated organisations and learnt about the relevant programmes supporting advanced materials research and development that could directly benefit collaboration, joint ventures and growth opportunities for organisations in the UK.

The Advanced Therapies Global Expert Mission travelled to Canada in March 2020 to better understand the innovation landscape in Canada and seek out synergies and opportunities for collaboration between the UK and Canada. Due to time constraints and the size of the country, the delegation was not able to visit all areas in five days and focused specifically on Toronto and Vancouver.

The Agri-Tech Global Expert Mission (GEM) travelled to Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney in February 2019 and in this publication we share the information and insights gathered during the delegation’s time in Australia.

In October 2017, the Artificial Intelligent (AI) Expert Mission travelled to Toronto and Montréal. The UK delegation met with Canadian federal and provincial government officials, academics and commercial entities – gaining exposure to nearly forty AI related organisations and learning about more than 80 programmes that could directly benefit collaboration, joint ventures and innovation opportunities for AI organisations in the UK.

In response to the growing UK alternative protein ecosystem and targeted investments into research and innovation projects, a Global Expert Mission (GEM) was undertaken by Innovate UK to identify collaboration opportunities with the US.

In May 2019, an expert UK delegation travelled to Germany. The delegation met with German federal officials, academics and commercial entities from sixteen antimicrobial resistance (AMR) related organisations and learnt about many programmes that could directly benefit from collaboration and joint ventures with organisations involved in AMR in the UK.

In November 2023, an Innovate UK Global Expert Mission (GEM) visited C-CAMP, Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre and Rotary Club in Bangalore, India to engage with emerging and established biotech start-ups working at the forefront of AMR research. Meeting with stakeholders identified the innovation opportunity, challenges and the support mechanism to help start-ups thrive in a highly competitive field.

In September 2022, Innovate UK took a team of UK experts representing businesses and academia to the US to improve Innovate UK’s understanding of the research and innovation landscape in AMR in the US. The GEM explored potential collaboration opportunities in three thematic areas: 1.Diagnostics. 2. Therapeutics and vaccines. 3.Environmental surveillance.

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Global Expert Mission to Germany took place in December 2020 to better understand the innovation landscape in Germany and to identify synergies and opportunities for collaboration between the UK and Germany. The delegation focused on the key areas of Berlin, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.

In June 2023, as part of Innovate UK’s Global Expert Mission (GEM) programme and with funding from the Bridge AI Programme, a team of UK experts led by Innovate UK visited Switzerland to improve our understanding of the research and innovation landscape in the field of AI in construction applications.

In March 2023, Innovate UK sent a Global Expert Mission (GEM) to the Netherlands, where delegates from the UK’s aviation and maritime sectors met with key Dutch stakeholders to share their innovations and achievements and find collaborative pathways towards a decarbonised future.

The Bioinformatics Expert Mission travelled to Tel Aviv and Haifa in November 2018. Here, we share the information and insights gathered during the delegation’s time in Israel.

Innovate UK in collaboration with UK Science and Innovation Network (UK SIN) delivered a Global Expert Mission (GEM) to Singapore in April 2024, bringing together key stakeholders from both countries to exchange knowledge and showcase developments in quantum technologies.

The Composite Materials Expert Mission travelled to Dallas, Tennessee and Alabama in October 2018. In this publication we share the information and insights gathered during the delegation’s time in the US.

Innovate UK in collaboration with UK Science and Innovation Network (UK SIN) delivered a Global Expert Mission (GEM) to Australia in March 2023, bringing together key stakeholders from both countries to exchange knowledge and showcase developments in critical materials.

In May 2022, as part of Innovate UK’s Global Expert Missions Programme commissioned by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) with funding from the Global Research & Innovation Programme (GRIP), a team of UK experts led by Innovate UK KTN visited Canada and the US to improve our understanding of the research and innovation landscape in the field of critical materials.

The Cybersecurity Global Expert Mission (GEM) visited Australia (Canberra, Melbourne and Sydney) in October 2022 to gain a more in depth understanding of the cybersecurity ecosystem and identify opportunities for collaboration.

The Cybersecurity Expert Mission travelled to Tel Aviv and Be’er Sheva in June 2018. Here, we share the information and insights gathered during the delegation’s time in Israel.
